Nine SBCA superior officers arrested

The police went down to the office of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and arrested nine senior officials for interrogation, including a retired director.

A FIR was officially recorded on Wednesday, appointing senior SBCA officials and the owners of the collapsed building.

After his recording, the FIR was officially sealed by the police.

The case concerns the collapse of a five -story residential building on Fida Hussain Shaikha Road in the Baghdadi region in Lyari on July 4.

The tragedy cost the lives of 27 people and injured 11 others. The incident aroused indignation and a high -level survey on cause and responsibility.

Among the detained persons are the additional director general SBCA Irfan Naqvi, Zargham Shah, the retired director Asif Rizvi, Chalis Siddiqui, Ashfaq Khokhar, the deputy director Faheem Siddiqui, the deputy director Zulfiqar Shah and Faheem Murtaza.

The owners of the building were also placed in police custody for interrogation.

Sources indicate that SBCA officials are questioned about an alleged involvement in illegal constructions in Lyari and their inability to prevent structural violations.

The authorities are continuing the efforts to find and stop all the people appointed to the FIR.

Governor Sindh is launching emergency efforts for people affected by the demolition of dilapidated buildings in Lyari. The Governor’s house began to provide daily meals to affected families.
