Islamabad:
The chief of staff of the army, Marshal Syed Asim Munnir, rejected Thursday the idea that the recent military conflict between Pakistan and India in May had an involvement of third parties, affirming that it was “a bilateral confrontation”.
Its remarks occurred at the Conference of Commanders of the Corps held at the GHQ in Rawalpindi to examine internal security as well as regional developments. Chairing the meeting, Marshal Asim referred to the baseless innuendo of the Indian army to compensate for his complete defeat.
“Invoke third parties in what is undoubtedly a bilateral military confrontation reflects a block policy attempt to wrongly project the role self-sufficient by India as a net security supplier to accumulate advantages in a region which is visibly rooted by the army, said the chief of the army.
The deputy chief of the Indian army had said last week that India was facing a two front situation, referring to the role of China. However, Marshal Asim’s declaration suggested the opposite.
Pakistan may have close defense cooperation with China, but the authorities said that it was Pakistan’s own planning and indigenous technology that helped defeat India and New Delhi’s efforts to point the finger in China were an attempt at western sympathy and support.
