- PC shipments are increasing, but they are influenced by pricing impacts
- Notebooks are much more popular than office computers
- Consumers could upgrade next year
Although President Trump’s prices continue to create uncertainty in the PC industry, the new figures have suggested that devices are continuing to increase and could now be the best time to upgrade if you are on the market.
During the second quarter of 2025, experts from the channel industry followed 67.6 million units sent worldwide, up 7.4% in annual sliding.
IDC, another market research company that is trying to monitor industry, has followed 68.4 million shipments, marking a smaller but just as healthy increase of 6.5% from one year to the next.
PC shipments continue to increase
A recent American trade agreement of Vietnam has introduced a tariff of 20% on Vietnamese goods and a 40% tariff on transmish goods such as Chinese pieces that have met in Vietnam, helping to maintain a ceiling on costs for consumers.
At the same time, we also note that more suppliers will increase stocks because they bring low-cost devices before tariff irons surrendered, potentially driving more expensive prices for certain imports.
Although office computers (9%) have experienced greater growth than laptop computers (7%), laptops still represent approximately four out of PC shipments worldwide.
However, a large part of growth can be awarded to business customers. Companies have been more active than consumers in upgrade devices in response to the next measure of the end of the Windows 10, with consumers more likely to keep their aircraft longer.
Although Mac only represent about one in ten PCs shipped, Apple has seen the healthiest quarterly growth of 21.3% thanks to a high demand for new models fueled by M4, and the company could be in a growth similar to the next quarter, with its return to school offers in the last days of the last quarter.
For the future, demand could grow as more consumers seek to upgrade their devices, potentially increase prices and make the best time to upgrade.
Kieren Jessop, responsible for the research of Canalys, explained: “We are planning that the consumer PC market increases next year when it coincides with a potential refresh cycle of the era devices, which are starting to reach their end of life.”
