Pakistan Railways is expected to launch a new advanced corporate train this week, aimed at offering passengers a modern and comfortable travel experience on the road to Lahore-Karachi.

The new service will include 28 trainers digitally equipped, free Wi-Fi and an international dining car.

This decision is part of the wider initiative of the rail operator aimed at modernizing its long-haul travel services and attracting more passengers through improved facilities.

According to Pakistan Railways, the new business train is designed to meet international comfort and service standards, marking a significant upgrade of traditional offers.

The train route between Lahore and Karachi connects two of the country’s largest cities, a corridor known for its high demand for passengers.

Earlier, Pakistan railways launched the outsourcing process of 11 additional trains, which will now operate under the public-private partnership model (PPP).

While officials argue that this decision aims to improve rail services, criticisms warn that it could marginalize low -income passengers that depend strongly on affordable interurban trips.

The rail authorities argue that outsourcing will lead to better quality of service. However, representatives of civil society have expressed serious concerns about the fact that the change could lead to tariff increases, which makes travel more difficult for disadvantaged communities.

The rail journey remains a popular and economical mode of transport for the poor and medium -sized classes in Pakistan.

It is estimated that around 100,000 passengers use trains daily, mainly on major roads connecting Karachi to the cities of Punjab.
