Karachi:
Karachi police brought the case against Salman Farooqui, who had been appointed to an assault case involving a young man in the Ittehad commercial area of Defense Housing Authority (DHA).
The incident had aroused a widespread indicative after the video sequences of the altercation became viral on social networks last month.
During a recent hearing at the court of judicial magistrate in the South, the police informed the court that the case had been officially withdrawn. Gizri police have submitted a “class C” report, indicating that the case is no longer prosecuted.
According to the report, the complainant, Dheeraj alias Dhanraj, said in a written affidavit that he did not wish to continue a legal action and that neither he nor his sister faced a fault of the accused. Affidavit has led to the decline in all accusations, including criminal intimidation and threats to kill.
The court accepted the police report on the file and postponed the procedure.

Farooqui was initially arrested for assaulting a motorcyclist following a traffic dispute on Khayaban-E-Ittehad. Viral video has shown that Farooqui physically attacking the rider in front of the victim’s sisters, despite their repeated calls to stop.
The images sparked an important online reaction and led to the registration of a case against Farooqui and Owais Hashmi co-accused at the Gizri police station. The complainant withdraws his declaration and that the accusations fell, the authorities have now closed the case.
