Two dog snifiers from the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police, credited to have thwarted dozens of terrorist plots, were officially withdrawn after having served for a decade.
Dogs were part of the special unit for the elimination of bombs and the bomb operating through Peshawar and tribal districts.
These British breeder dogs played an essential role in bombs elimination operations and provided security authorizations to high -level officials, notably the Prime Minister, the Minister of Chief and the Governor.
They also played a decisive role in the compensation of routes and the detection of dozens of suspicious articles during various security operations.
According to Adil Abdal, director of the K9 unit of the KP, dogs worked closely with the police, the Department of Fight against Terrorism (CTD) and other law enforcement organizations during numerous research and strike missions.
Their efforts neutralized two main improvised explosive devices (IED) and helped protect the key routes from potential threats.
Due to the age, dogs have been removed but remain appreciated by the KP police. After his retirement, they aroused significant interest from people wishing to adopt them.
A senior Peshawar police official stressed the key role of dogs during sensitive periods such as Muharram and VIP visits, noting their ability to detect threats well in advance, improving security measures.
