Islamabad:
The number of deaths against the monsoon rains in progress in Pakistan reached 116, with five other deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) announced on Tuesday.
According to the NDMA, 116 people have lost their lives so far, including those who have perished in the last 24 hours, when five additional deaths and at least 212 others have been injured since June 26. Torrential rains have also caused damage to generalized infrastructure, especially in low areas.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has planned heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds in large parts of the country from July 15 to 17, warning sudden potential floods, landslides and urban floods.
The PMD said generalized rains are expected in Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Cashmire, while scattered heavy showers can occur in the northeast and southern Balutchistan, the upper Sindh and the South-East and the Gilgit-Baltistan.
The authorities warned against any floods in local rivers and draws in Dera Ghazi Khan, Northeast and the Upper Punjab, Islamabad / Rawalpindi, northeast of Balutchistan, Cashmire, Chitral, Swat, Shangla, Manshra, Murree, Galiyat, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner Nowa, and edge.

There is also a high risk of landslides in the hilly regions of KP, MRIREE, GALIYAT, CACHEMIRE and GB, potentially disturbing road networks and communications.
Meanwhile, Bahawalnagar has received the most recorded precipitation at 86 mm in the last 24 hours.
The NDMA has also issued alerts for Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Narowal, Okara, Jhang, Bahawalnagar, Multan, Khanewal and Bahawalpur, providing for heavy storms and intense rains in the next 12 to 24 hours.

In Islamabad and surroundings, the showers are expected to continue throughout the week, with flood warnings published from July 15 to 18 for urban areas in Lahore, Gujranwala, Siackot, Muzaffargarh, Sahiwal, Multan, Kot Addu and Bahawalpur.
In the mountainous regions of Rajanpur and DG Khan, the authorities warned against the increase in water levels in hill torrents and local streams from Pirjal Pir chain.
Residents of the high -risk areas of KP – notably Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Mardan, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu and Waziristan – were invited to prepare emergency kits with food, water and drugs for 3 to 5 days.
