Islamabad:
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has been hard on the Ministry of Planning for Massive Financial Irregularities, which have been found and an apparent administrative dysfunction.
The meeting, chaired by Junaid Akbar Khan, examined audit objections linked to the ministry’s financial performance.
In a shocking revelation, it appeared that the additional subsidies granted by the Ministry of Planning exceeded the initial subsidy of 134%. The revelation aroused the indignation of the members. “These figures make no sense. Is there planning in the planning division?” Naveed Qamar asked.
Riaz Fatyana, member of the committee, deplored that each fourth person in the country was unemployed, and yet there was no coherent reflection on human development. “The paras audit is a disaster. This ministry could just as easily be closed,” he added.
Junaid Akbar asked if the ministry had lost financial and administrative control. “What if it is the state of the Ministry of Planning, what should we expect from other ministries?” He asked.
The committee has decided to initiate official surveys on several audit objections, with reports to be submitted within one month.
A tense moment occurred when the member of the Sardar Sanaullah Mastikhel committee required complete disclosure of the advantages and wages not only of politicians, but also higher officers of all key state institutions, including 22nd year bureaucists, military generals and judges of the Supreme Court.
