- Google Chrome will soon end the management of MacOS Big on
- This leaves only two browsers that work with this operating system
- If you perform macOS BIG SUR, it’s time to upgrade
If you run MacOS Big on your Mac, we have bad news: soon, only two of the best web browsers will continue to support this operating system. Once this happens, you will have to install MacOS Sequoia or change your choice browser.
The development comes as Google has announced that the 138 version of Chrome will be the last to provide updates for MacOS Big on. After that, Google Chrome will continue to operate in MacOS Big Sur, but you will see a prominent warning message telling you to upgrade. He will not receive updates either, which will potentially make him vulnerable to serious security violations.
In the future, MacOS Monterey will be the minimum requirement for Chrome updates. This will occur with Chrome version 139, which should arrive on August 5, 2025.
This will leave Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge as only popular browsers always supporting MacOS Big on. We do not know how long the support will last either, so the upgrading of your Mac is a reasonable idea to protect you.
It’s time to update
Google Chrome is one of the best browsers, thanks to its speed and a wide range of extensions, so losing it will be a blow for anyone who still directs MacOS Big on.
As we mentioned above, there are alternatives, but you may not use them currently, which means that you will probably have to go to your signs and other navigation data.
The update of MacOS Big on Apple was published in 2020, and the company’s own Safari browser ceased to support it in July 2023. This alone shows that it is probably time to install a more recent version of MacOS on your Mac if you are still running MacOS Big on.
The older versions of macOS can be vulnerable to hackers and other threats. Although Apple supports obsolete macOS versions for many years, in particular by deploying security fixes, it does not do so indefinitely.
If possible, you need to update your Mac to the latest version of MacOS to make sure you have not only the latest security protections, but also all the best macOS features.
