Islamabad:
The Minister of Planning, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, chaired Thursday a special meeting of the Committee of the Cabinet on Chinese investment projects to examine the progress of various projects within the framework of the Chinese-Pakistani Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The meeting, which attended senior officers of the ministries concerned, focused on the implementation of decisions taken at the previous meeting and solving the problems faced by Chinese investors.
Iqbal said that the problem solving in Chinese investors was an absolute priority for the government.
“The government is committed to ensuring a safe and conducive to Chinese investment, which is crucial for bilateral cooperation in the new sectors within the framework of Phase II of the CPEC,” he added.
The Minister said that the CPEC had the potential to play an important role in increasing regional cooperation, the port of Gwadar, ready to become a hub for regional trade.
He stressed the importance of protecting the interests and the use of local fishermen in Gwadar, adding that the pace of water and electricity projects in the region is accelerated.
The meeting has ordered that the problems pending in projects built with Chinese investment will be resolved immediately.
Iqbal reiterated that the increase in foreign investments and employment opportunities was a key element of the government’s manifesto.
“We are working tirelessly to make sure that CPEC projects are completed in time and that they benefit the local population,” he noted.
