WASHINGTON:
The White House said Thursday that no visit to US President Donald Trump was scheduled for Pakistan “at that time” after generalized reports on a trip.
The White House rejected rumors. “A trip to Pakistan was not planned at the time,” said a White House official.
The reaction intervened after two local television channels reported on Thursday that the American president should visit Pakistan in September, citing sources familiar with the issue.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson said he was not aware of Trump’s expected visit. The two television news channels said Trump would also visit India after arriving in Islamabad in September.
Relations with the United States-Pakistan experienced a major boost when Trump welcomed the army chief, Marshal Asim Munir, last month, the Maréchal du Field Munir at the White House at an unprecedented meeting.
A spokesperson for the United States Embassy in Islamabad told Reuters: “We have nothing to announce,” said the White House could be able to confirm the president’s calendar.
The Pakistan Ministry of Information did not respond to a Reuters request for a comment. India is expected to welcome the summit of the so-called quadruple countries this year, but the dates of the meeting have not yet been announced.
The Quad group includes the United States, India, Australia and Japan and focuses on the fight against the increase in China in the Indo-Pacific region.
