Islamabad:
Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ishaq Dar will go to the United States next week to participate in high-level events marking the Presidency of Pakistan of the United Nations Security Council (USC) in New York, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed.
DAR will chair several signature events at the United Nations headquarters, including a high -level open debate on “the promotion of international peace and security by multilateralism and the peaceful settlement of disputes”. The session aims to strengthen multilateral diplomacy and mediation as key tools to resolve world conflicts.
He will also chair the CNSC open quarterly debate on the “situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue”, highlighting Pakistan’s continuous accent on long-standing international disputes, added FO.
In addition, DAR should chair a special CSNU briefing on strengthening cooperation between the United Nations and the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC), which is part of Pakistan’s broader diplomatic pressure to link multilateral institutions to pursuit of peace.
To reaffirm Pakistan’s solidarity with Palestine, the Deputy Prime Minister will attend a high-level conference on the “peaceful regulation of the Palestine issue and the implementation of the two-state solution”. The event is expected to highlight Islamabad’s call at the end of the occupation and a just resolution at the conflict of several decades.
During his stay in New York, Dar should also hold several bilateral meetings with colleagues ministers of foreign affairs and senior UN officials. He will later go to Washington for additional commitments, although specific details of the visit have not yet been announced.
