Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar, arrived in the United States on Sunday evening to attend high-level events marking the presidency of Pakistan of the United Nations Security Council (USC) in New York, followed by bilateral commitments in Washington.

Upon arrival, the Deputy Prime Minister was received by the Permanent Representative of Pakistan at the UN, the Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad.

Pakistan officially assumed the presidency of the CSNU on Tuesday for July 2025 in its two -year term as a non -permanent member who began on January 1, 2025.

In New York, as part of the signing events of the Pakistan Security Council, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will chair a high -level open debate on “promotion of international peace and security by multilateralism and peaceful dispute resolution”.

“The high-level debate aims to explore the means of strengthening multilateralism and improving diplomacy and mediation for peaceful dispute resolution,” the Foreign Office spokesman said on a press release on Monday.

In addition, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will chair the open quarterly debate of the Security Council on the “situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue”

He will also chair a high-level briefing of the United Nations Security Council which will focus on improving cooperation between the UN and the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC), he added.

The meeting takes place within the framework of Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen collaboration between the OIC and the UN for the maintenance of international peace and security.

To express the strong commitment of Pakistan and an unwavering support for the right to self -determination of the Palestinian people, Dar will also attend the high -level conference on the “peaceful regulation of the question of Palestine and the implementation of the two -state solution”.

“Pakistan’s high level participation in the quarterly debate of the United Nations Security Council on the Middle East as well as the international conference on the peaceful regulation of the Palestine issue and the implementation of the two-state solution, is also a testimony to Pakistan press release to the Palestinian cause,” the press release said.

The conference, sponsored by France and Saudi Arabia, was initially scheduled for June but was postponed due to the Iran-Israel war.

During his stay in New York, the DPM DAR should have several bilateral commitments with its counterparts, as well as senior United Nations, said the FO press release.

“Dar’s visit to New York and Washington illustrates the growing role and importance of Pakistan in the multilateral arena as well as its expanding multiform relations with the United States,” he concluded.

The visit occurred for weeks after Pakistan officially recommended US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his role in the end of tensions between Pakistan and India earlier this year.
