- Matt Shakman said if Doctor Doom would never be The Fantastic Four: First steps‘Principal villain
- Robert Downey Jr will play the emblematic opponent of the group in 2026 Avengers: Doomsday movie
- Galactus was finally chosen to be First stepPrimary antagonist
The Fantastic Four: First steps The director explained why Galactus and not Doment Doom is the big bad guy – and that has nothing to do with Avengers: Doomsday.
By discussing Techradar, Matt Shakman described two major reasons for choosing the immortal and deviation of the planet on the fantastic godfather of the Fantastic Four for their latest restart on the big screen. Interestingly, Marvel’s revised plan for the multiverse saga, which has seen Robert Downey Jr return to the Marvel cinematographic universe (MCU) to represent Victor Von Doom in the next two Avengers films, was not one of them.
“We did not plan to make Doom the villain,” said the filmmaker of the film Marvel. “Above all, because he was the villain of all the other Fantastic Four films. He takes up a lot of space and he is a wonderful character, but I wanted to be able to focus on this family [and] These four characters [over him].
“Obviously, I chose a very big bad guy, literally,” continued Shakman. “But, Galactus is also the second most famous villain of the Fantastic Four, so it was logical to bring it in. We considered many other potential cheaps along the way, but we finally settled on Galactus and and I am happy that we did it.”
It is fascinating to learn that Doom has never been discussed as the main enemy of the film 6 film of Marvel.
Initially announced in July 2019, First step Perceau from Marvel to Kang the Conqueror – the first global villain of the Multative saga – to Doctor Doom of five years. Indeed, Downey Jr was not announced as the most famous son of Latveria to the Comic-Con San Diego of 2024, with Doom confirmed that he replaced Kang after the dismissal of Jonathan Majors by Marvel following numerous allegations of aggression against him.
With an equal intrigue, Shakman was not Marvel’s first choice to be the director of one of the most anticipated new films of 2025.
Originally, Jon Watts, who directed the first trilogy of Tom Holland’s film Spider-Man in the MCU, was operated in December 2020. However, Watts abandoned in April 2022 and, despite a bizarre rumor that the legendary filmmaker Stephen Spielberg had been asked to replace Watts, it was Shakman who made the project in August in August. It is therefore possible that Doom could have been discussed as the main antagonist of the last cinematographic adventure of Fantastic Four before Shakman’s hiring.
Regardless, as he did throughout First step‘Press Tour, Shakman refused to comment on the perspective that Doom of Downey Jr appears in the last MCU of 2025. With the first family of Marvel who took his first steps in the MCU this Friday, July 25, we do not have long to wait until we have a final response.
