- A new packaging leak for the DJI OSMO 360 revealed its potential specifications
- The leak suggests that it will draw an 8K / 30p video and offer a 10 -bit color depth
- It could also cost a little less than insta360 x5
The battle of the 360 cameras of this year heats up well – and a new leak for one of the main contenders, the DJI Osmo 360, has just given us a solid overview of the way it could compare to the Insta360 X5, head of class.
The packaging leak, first shared by the reliable Quadro_News on X (below), shows what seems to be the last retail packaging of the first 360 camera of DJI. And this box easily includes a list of OSMO 360 specifications, which appear (on paper, at least) to be slightly better than the current higher dog of our guide for the best 360 cameras.
Despite the size of this leak, one of the most important specifications – the sensor size – remains clear. The back of the box indicates that the OSMO 360 is capable of “1 inch 360 imaging”. But further on, the small impression indicates “When capturing 360 content, the CMOS sensor of OSMO 360 has an imagery area equivalent to that of a 1 -inch CMOS sensor.”
Precisely what it means is not yet clear. Previous leaks have suggested that the OSMO 360 could have square sensors, which could explain the “equivalent to” language of DJI for the imaging zone. Anyway, we will probably have to wait for the official launch to obtain confirmation.

The other disclosed specifications compare well in the insta360 X5 (see table below). The OSMO 360 will be apparently capable of a 10 -bit color depth – if this is the case, it could offer greater edition flexibility than its Insta360 rival.
There is also the promise of fixed images of 120 MP and a lifespan of the claimed battery which seems strong if we consider that it is cited for the video shooting 8k / 30p.
And the price? As @jasperellens noted it separately on X, the OSMO 360 disclosed box was seen in an Australian store, so its price (from $ 759 at for the standard bundle) is for this region. Exactly how it will convert to the United States and the United Kingdom, but in theory, it compares well in the insta360 X5.
The X5 starts at $ 550 /520 for its standard bundle, which does not include accessories such as an additional battery, a load case, a selfie stick or lens guards that all come to the Essentials bundle. If we use Australian OSMO 360 prices as a guide, it should start at $ 500 /500.
How do the OSMO 360 and X5 compare themselves?
There is obviously much more at 360 cameras than their specifications. The software is particularly important for experience, because publishing is essential when you need to transform 360 -degree videos into traditional “flat”.
But on the basis of disclosed specifications and prices, Dji certainly seems to enter the 360 space in a competitive way. It is not surprising – Insta360 has dominated 360 cameras for years, and its latest flagship product of fifth generation is excellent, so the OSMO 360 will have to be a good start for DJI.

If it passes the insta360 x5 in certain areas (10 -bit recording, stronger performance in low light) for a slightly lower price, it will be good news for all those looking to buy a 360 camera. And potentially bad news for Gopro, of which Max 2 is now imminent.
Insta360 certainly seems to be on the defensive, recently launching a large update of the firmware that stimulates the batteries for its flagship camera, alongside new accessories and a new BMW Motorrad edition of the X5 for motorcycle. Leave the battle of the 360 camera start.
