The UN adopts the resolution sponsored by Pakistan on the “peaceful settlement of disputes”

Islamabad:

The United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution sponsored by Pakistan on Tuesday entitled “Reinforcement mechanisms for the peaceful settlement of disputes”, marking an important diplomatic achievement during the presidency of Pakistan of the Council for July.

The adoption of the resolution, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Ishaq Dar, was praised as historical development to advance international peace and security.

According to an official press release, the resolution highlights the importance of preventive diplomacy, conflict prevention and peaceful resolution of disputes, in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter.

Resolution 2788 (2025) seeks to improve the role of mechanisms described under Chapter VI of the United Nations Charter, encouraging Member States to prioritize peaceful means to resolve disputes. He also urges nations to implement the relevant decisions of the Security Council aimed at facilitating peaceful colonies.

The resolution also calls for the Member States of the United Nations and the organization itself to explore the measures of diplomatic engagement, mediation, facilitation of dialogue and strengthening at the international, regional and sububional levels.

He encourages increased cooperation between regional organizations and the UN in efforts to prevent disposal of disputes and promote lasting peace.

Pakistan, currently a non -permanent member of the Security Council, has reaffirmed its long -standing commitment to multilateralism and the peaceful resolution of international disputes.

Islamabad described the adoption of its resolution as a significant contribution to world peace and stability, aligning its foreign policy objectives.

Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the high-level political forum (HLPF) on sustainable development, Dar Vice-Prime Minister held a meeting with the Austrian Special Envoy for World Affairs, Peter Launsky.

The two parties expressed their satisfaction with the positive trajectory of bilateral links and discussed the ways for additional cooperation, in particular in education, tourism and business.

Launsky appreciated the contributions of the Pakistani diaspora to the economy and social cohesion of Austria.

The two also reaffirmed the close collaboration of their country in multilateral platforms, Austria congratulating the constructive role of Pakistan in the Security Council, in particular during its current presidency.

One day earlier, DAR also met the UN SECTOR ANTónio Guterres secretary at the UN headquarters, where he raised concerns about the continuous violations of India from the Industry Water Treaty (IWT).

He described violations as a threat to regional stability and urged the United Nations to play a proactive role in maintaining international agreements.

The Deputy Prime Minister has also drawn attention to a range of critical questions, including the long-standing dispute of Jammu and cashmere and the threat posed by terrorism sponsored from the outside in Pakistan.

Returning Islamabad’s commitment to the United Nations Charter, DAR underlined Pakistan Peace Pakistan by diplomacy and dialogue.

He underlined the recent debates of the high -level council on multilateralism and the peaceful settlement of disputes – as well as the meeting on OII cooperation convened under the presidency of Pakistan – as proof of the active commitment of the country in world peace efforts.
