ZAHIR JAFFER requests a revision of the death penalty

Islamabad:

Zahir Jaffer, the man sentenced to the murder of Noor Muqadam, moved the Supreme Court to examine the Supreme Court’s decision to respect the death granted to him.

The examination petition, filed by Khawaja Haris, said that “the media threshing created on social networks” has constantly created hatred towards him throughout the investigation and the trial and even at the appeal stage, considerably violating his fundamental right to the fair trial and regular procedure.

The review request stipulates that the judgment of May 20 did not address the question of the absence of spirit or the mental capacity of the petitioner who was raised before this court.

“It is argued that the advocacy thus raised in the name of the petitioner is of immense meaning, both with regard to the validity of his trial and for the purpose of determining the guilt of the petitioner and / or the penalty of sentence,” said the petition.

“As such, leaving this indeterminate affair has seriously prejudicial the interests of justice and the rights of the petitioner as guaranteed by the Constitution in terms of articles 4, 9 and 10-A of the Constitution,” he continues.

“It is subjected with respect, for having been influenced by a planned and sustained campaign launched on social networks, among others, by the complainant, against the petitioner in particular and, as such, the scientist trial judge has never made any effort to examine the plea of the petitioner in the context of the law.”
