The rescue teams recovered the body from a retired colonel on Thursday, which had disappeared since his car was swept away by Rainwaters and slipped into a drain in Rawalpindi last week. The search for his daughter, who was with him at the time, continues.

The incident occurred when the father and daughter’s car was swept away by the rapidly moving water from a seasonal watercourse that connects sector 4 and phase 7 of a private housing company in Islamabad.

Eye witnesses said they had seen both the signaling of the aid, but due to the flow of the water, they could not be saved.

A joint rescue operation involving the Pakistani army, the PDMA (province of disaster management), rescue 1122, and other agencies started immediately after the departure of the car.

Despite the incessant efforts throughout Tuesday and Wednesday, the operation failed to locate the missing father and daughter.

Research resumed early Thursday with renewed hopes to find them.

Thursday afternoon, rescue teams recovered the vehicle door and the hood under the SOAN river bridge, which extends to the drain where the car would have disappeared.

The excavations focused on the deeper sections of the river, and the managers have expressed optimism now that the water levels have decreased.

The rescue 1122 confirmed that the colonel (retired) Qazi Ishaq was found under the bridge connecting sector 4 and phase 7 of the housing company.

The search for her daughter continues, the recovery teams were still focused on the surrounding areas.
