Islamabad: An anti -terrorist court (ATC) in Islamabad canceled the arrest warrant issued for the head of the opposition to the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan on Thursday as part of a PTI demonstration held in October of the year.

ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra, who issued an arrest warrant against the opposition chief, earlier in the day, suspended the mandate after the latter’s lawyer appeared in court and submitted an exemption advocacy.

The case was recorded at the Shahzad Town police station against Ayub and other PTI leaders following clashes between supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI) and the police on October 4, 2024.

However, during the current ATC hearing, Senator Azam Swati obtained a personal attendance exemption, following a request submitted the day before.

The court postponed other procedures until July 30.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad lower court announced Thursday its decision in two cases filed under the Pacific Assembly and the Public Order Act, linked to the PTI demonstration on November 26.

The judicial magistrate Ahmed Shehzad Gondal and Mureed Abbas announced the reserved verdict.

Up to 12 PTI workers were sentenced to six months in prison, while PTI worker was acquitted in the case.

Today’s development follows recent anti -terrorist decisions that have rendered prison terms of up to 10 years to the high leaders of the PTI as part of the riots of May 9, 2023.

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) sentenced several PTI leaders on Tuesday, including Dr. Yasmin Rashid and Mian Mehmood Ur Rasheed, at 10 years in prison each in connection with the case on May 9.

The court also granted convictions to the former governor of Punjab, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, to Senator PTI Ejaz Chaudhry and to Afzal Azeem Pahat in the same case.

However, the court acquitted former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Hamza Azeem Pahat, Rana Tanveer and Aizaz Rafiq in the case.

On the same day, the ATC in Sargodha also condemned the head of the opposition of the Punjab assembly, Ahmed Khan Bashar, the Mna Mohammad Ahmed Chattha and several other PTI workers at 10 years each in a case of vandalism linked to the riots of May 9.
