The government urges the repression of “digital terrorism”

Friday, the government urged social media companies to immediately withdraw the terrorist content from their platforms using artificial intelligence (AI), highlighting global cooperation against digital terrorism, including data sharing. Addressing a joint press conference in Islamabad with the Minister of State to the Aqeel Malik law, Minister of State inside, Talal Chaudhry, stressed that the suppression of the terrorist content of social media did not intend to silence freedom of expression, but to build a wall against the threat.

"I would like to ask operators and platforms of the social media to cooperate with us on the blockade and the deletion of the accounts, by taking measures to stop the mirror accounts and share information on the account holders that use these accounts," Said Chaudhry. Earlier this week, Chaudhry had pointed out how a terrorist group used WhatsApp channels for "Distribute hateful content and harmful stories". He told the joint that 2,417 complaints related to terrorism on social networks were under the study of the authorities concerned.

"Pakistan is a bulwark against terrorism. We have detected hundreds of social media accounts related to terrorism. Outfits like TTP, IS-K, BLA and BLF broadcast propaganda and recruit young people through social media," He said. On this occasion, Barister Aqeel said that terrorism and propaganda were punishable offenses under the Act respecting the prevention of electronic crimes (PECA). "Pakistan has requested the closure of terrorist accounts, automatic locking and access to data from social media platforms," He said.
