Islamabad:
Friday, the Senate was an exception to the decision of the High Court of Islamabad (IHC) to make suspension orders on questions under discussion in parliamentary committees.
Considering as a serious violation of privileges, legislators asked that the question be referred to the Senate committee on the rules of procedure and privileges.
They also asked that the Attorney General be summoned to explain the overtaking in parliamentary affairs.
During the session, chaired by Senator Irfan Siddiqui, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla of the Pakistani peoples (PPP) party opposed the suspension orders rendered by the IHC and the High Court of Lahore (LHC) against the procedures of the upper Chamber.
“I have never seen a stay of order against parliamentary procedures before. This should be taken seriously,” he said, urging the Senate to summon the Attorney General.
“We never interfere in legal proceedings, but judges producing suspension orders against the actions of the Committee are direct interference in Parliament. This becomes a joke.”
Shahadat Awan made the call. “We will ask for the comments of the Minister of Law and convene the Attorney General for Clarification and Action.”
Senator Anusha Rehman declared that these actions had violated article 66 of the Constitution and constituted a violation of privilege. “The publication of a suspension order against a deputy is a direct attack on their privilege,” she said, urging the Chamber to refer the case to the Committee of Privileges and to ensure that the officials appear before him.
“No one can prevent us from talking to this house,” she added.
Senator Kamran Murtaza expressed his concern about the reports of lawyers picked up in Balutchistan. “If someone has committed a crime, he should be punished under the law,” he said. The president of the presidents replied that a report on the question would be sought.
