Islamabad:
The Darrier of Foreign Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs said that his recent remarks on the case of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, posed in response to a question concerning the legal situation of the Minister of former Imran Khan to the Atlantic Council’s thinking group in Washington, were removed from its context.
In a press release published on X, DAR said: “Yesterday, in response to a question about Imran Khan’s case to the Atlantic Council’s thinking group in Washington, the reference to the case of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui is withdrawn from its context.”
“During the mandates of PML-N governments, we have always provided all diplomatic and legal aid to the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, and we will continue to do so until the question of his release is resolved.”
Stressing the importance of respecting judicial systems, he explained that each country had its legal and legal procedures, “which must be respected, be it Pakistan or the United States”.
“The position of our government on the issue of the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui is clear and unequivocal,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Currently during an official visit to the United States, FM DAR had discussed the Atlantic Council’s thinking group in Washington, DC.
While answering a question concerning the imprisonment of the former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Dar had referred to Dr Siddiqui to underline the principle of respect for the judicial processes.
He said Pakistan had not interfered in the case of Dr Siddiqui because “the Americans had followed their judicial system”.
Likewise, he added, Imran Khan had been condemned by the judiciary of Pakistan after a legal process. “When the regular procedure is followed, others have no right to interfere,” he said.
The remarks were strongly criticized by the legal team of Dr Siddiqui, his lawyer calling the “silly” comparison.
