Pakistan Ambassador to the United Nations Asim Iftikhar Ahmad organized a widely frequented reception to mark the end of the Presidency of Pakistan of the United Nations Security Council for the month of July.
The leaders of diplomatic missions accredited to the United Nations, senior United Nations officials, eminent citizens and superior journalists attended the event held on Thursday.
Former UN Ambassador of Pakistan, Mnir Akram, also attended the reception.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar thanked his counterparts and guests for having attended the reception and their cooperation during the presidency of Pakistan of the Council.
He also thanked the former ambassador Akram, a well -known figure at the UN, for his presence during the rally.
During its presidency, in addition to other elements of the agenda, Pakistan organized two signature events – a high -level open debate on “the promotion of international peace and security by multilateralism and the peaceful settlement of disputes”. At the end of the debate, the council of 15 members unanimously adopted a resolution sponsored by Pakistan, calling on the United States to take measures for the effective implementation of the Council resolutions for the peaceful settlement of disputes.
The other signature event was a high -level briefing of the Security Council focused on improving cooperation between the United Nations and the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC) following a presidential press release.
Pakistan also chaired the council open quarterly debate on the “situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue”.
High-level events were chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Ishaq Dar.
Pakistan began its current two -year term as a non -permanent member in January 2025 and will be used until the end of 2026.
