Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Pakistan on Saturday for an official two -day visit, his first since his assumed office. He was warmly received at Allama Iqbal International Airport of Lahore by the president of Pakistan Muslim League-N Nawaz Sharif and the chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, reported Express News.
Dr. Pezeshkian was accompanied by a high -level delegation, notably the Minister of Foreign Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, higher ministers and other senior officials. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Iranian chief will meet the president Asif Ali Zardari and will hold talks at the level of the delegation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his stay.
Addressing the media before his visit, President Pezeshkian said that the main objective of his trip was to improve trade and economic cooperation. He said questions about border security and regional peace would also be discussed, adding that markets and cross -border connectivity could open new ways for collaboration.
He expressed the hope of increasing bilateral trade to US $ 10 billion and reiterated Iran’s interest in actively participating in the Chine-Pakistan Belt and Road initiative, which, according to him, could serve as a bridge connecting Iran to Europe. He also said that attempts to undermine Pakistan – Iran’s Islamic Unity would not be a part.
In May, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif undertook a two -day visit to Iran as part of his regional tour in friendly nations, aimed at expressing his gratitude for their support during the conflict with India. During the visit, he met the supreme chief Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and President Pezeshkian.
Discussions focused on strengthening Pakistani-Iranian relations, with particular emphasis on improving trade and regional connectivity. The two parties also addressed wider regional problems and recognized Iran’s efforts to promote peace during the war imposed in Pakistan by India.
