CCP to hear the case of sugar pricing today

Islamabad:

The Pakistan Competition Committee (PCC) is expected to start audiences today (Monday) in an alleged collusion in terms of sugar prices.

The Commission issued opinions to Pakistan SUGAR Mills Association (PSMA) and its member factories after the case was referred for rehearsal by the court of the competition.

The PCC has provided hearings in the case of the sugar card card for August 4, 5, 6 and 7, ordering all the parties concerned to appoint their representatives and ensure their availability to the designated dates, as well as all the proofs and relevant documents.

Earlier in May, the competition court had returned the case to the PCC for rehearsal after announcing its verdict on calls filed by sweets and the association against a fine RS44B.

The court asked that the case be repeated under the supervision of the PCC president or any other member who was not previously involved in the hearings. The court also ordered the commission to finish rehearsal and make a verdict within 90 days.

In 2021, the CPC had imposed a fine of 44 billion rupees on the PSMA and its member factories for the formation of a cartel to fix the prices of sugar and engage in other anti -competitive practices.
