The National Operation Center (NEOC) of the NDMA has published a new flood alert for an intensifying monsoon system affecting the higher and central regions of Pakistan from August 5 to 8.

The alert follows the combined influence of penetrating monsoon currents and a west hollow in northern Pakistan, which should cause strong precipitation dispersed during this period.

Increased entrances are anticipated in all the main rivers, in particular the Indus, the Chenab and the Ravi, with delights of Ravi and Chenab likely to reach up to average flood levels. Tarbela, Guddu and Sukkur dams are currently at low flooding stage, but continuous rain can also push Chashma and Taunsa to low flood levels.

The Chenab river in Marala should reach low floods, while the Jhelum river upstream of the mangla dam, as well as its tributaries, can reach average flows. River Kabul in Nowshera, and River Swat and Panjkora with their associated streams and nulllah are also likely to swell due to persistent precipitation in their watershed areas.
