Wasim Akram urges Babar Azam’s return to Squad for Asia Cup 2025

Stressing the need for an experienced player in Pakistan’s stick programming for the next 2025 Asian Cup, the legend of the Wasim Cricket Akram called Babar Azam on Thursday to the T20 national team.

Babar represented Pakistan for the last time in a T20 international against South Africa in December 2024. Following a series of disappointing performance, including a lower striking rate, it was deposited from the team.

Speaking in a recent interview with a local sports platform, Akram expressed his solid support for the return of the senior striker at the T20 configuration.

“If I had the authority, I would certainly include Babar Azam in the T20 national team,” said Akram.

“The Asian Cup, then the World Cup is approaching, and we need a senior striker. Fans can remember that when he represented Somerset in 2019, he marked races near a strike rate. He has the capacity to adapt his striker according to the situation,” he added.

“The coach can play Babar in any position he wants. In my opinion, the number three is ideal for him, but it will depend on the situation. If there is no more overs, someone else could also fight first,” he concluded.
