- OPENAI says that GPT-5 takes place to all users, replacing the previous models with immediate effect
- Chatgpt now includes automatic routing of the model via GPT-5 models
- Business APIs always include access to old models – but not for a long time
After the launch of Openai from GPT-5, its most advanced model to date, the AI giant has removed a certain number of preceding generation models from its repertoire with immediate effect.
The launch of GPT-5 saw OpenAi officially withdraw its preceding generation models (GPT-4O, O3, O4-Mini and O4-Mini-High) for many users, moving rather to make GPT-5 the standard option on all levels, including free accounts.
However, this now means that users will no longer be able to choose from the previous generation models for their AI tools, which they may have preferred for specific workloads.
GPT-5 replaces GPT-4O and other previous models
The launch comes while Chatgpt addresses 700 million weekly users, including five million paid commercial products, whose life promises to revolutionize by unlocking “greater productivity, efficiency and creative production”.
With the launch of the latest Openai model, users will no longer be able to choose specific models such as GPT-4O for certain tasks, GPT-5 promising rather to be a unified agent who can respond quickly and reason deeply, all in one place.
Users of the Enterprise and the EDU will keep access to the inherited models for 60 days, with GPT-5 access that arrives only a week after its initial launch, which means that they will have only a short time to think about how to continue to move forward.
Companies using API will also keep access to previous generation models, which should not be obsolete for the moment.
According to Openai’s announcement, the GPT-5 can now surpass many workers in around 40 areas, including law, sales, logistics and engineering, with approximately 45% less than GPT-4O hallucinations.
A number of iterations are also launched, including different predefined personalities and tones within GPT-5, a deeper GPT-5 thought and GPT-5 Pro, which is available for pro tier subscribers. GPT-5 Mini will also serve with a fall in lower and free levels who comply with their regular GPT-5 limit.
Even if the GPT-5 family promises a wide range of applications and improved performance, many business users say that GPT-4O’s performance was the best for occasional tasks-a model that they will no longer be able to use.
However, the change was due to come, because the CEO of Openai, Sam Altman, had previously criticized the model picker to be too complex, alluding to unification.
As the models improve, including with the launch of GPT-5, Openai plans a world where companies can achieve “better decision-making, improved collaboration and faster results on high challenges”.
