PDMA provides for the next monsoon rains in Punjab

The provincial Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has planned the next monsoon rainy fate from August 13 and has published a flood notice.

According to a spokesperson for the PDMA, opinions have been published for the Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab and Jhelum rivers, as well as adjacent streams and nulllah, warning potential floods due to the rains.

The PDMA warned that water levels in the main rivers through Punjab could increase during the seventh monsoon rains.

Commissioners, assistant commissioners and relevant services in the province were invited to stay alert.

The departments placed on alert include local government, agriculture, irrigation, health, forests, livestock and transport.

The director general of the PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, ordered all the departments to finish preparations in advance in accordance with the instructions of the chief minister of Punjab.

He said that the staff of the emergency control rooms must remain in service 24 hours a day and that the intervention teams in the event of a 1122 disaster should also remain on alert.

The authorities were responsible for keeping the public aware of the situation, guaranteeing the evacuation of houses and livestock from river beds and to encourage compliance with the security measures issued.

By calling on the public, the DG advised swimming in rivers, canals, streams and ponds, and urged cooperation with the authorities in the event of emergency evacuation.

Citizens were invited to contact the assistance line of the PDMA 1129 in an emergency.
