- A new OLED MEUD OLED from Pont Steam improves the RAM from 16 GB to 32 GB
- SLLCKBUYS MODS AND REPAIR presents a tutorial on the operation of the process
- This implies the welding and programming of BIOS, not intended for beginners
Valve’s vapor game has undergone many upgrades at hardware and software levels, with unofficial mods like Decky Loader, and, of course, the deck deck OLED, which offers faster display and an improved battery life. However, there is an unofficial material mod from which I suggest you stay away, unless you know what you are doing.
As indicated by Videocardz, the Steam Deck OLED RAM can now be upgraded at 32 GB of 16 GB, thanks to SlickBuys mods and repairs, which presented the process in a YouTube video (available below).
The modification is intended to improve the performance of the game, with more memory allocated to the games, ultimately reducing the drums and the cuts of image frequency in certain games. However, it is an extremely delicate process that I would not recommend trying unless you are familiar with welding and changes in the BIOS.
You would also need to find and buy a 32 GB memory chip that is suitable for the OLED model, which is expensive, because the only SLLCKBUS MODS and repairs uses in the video costs $ 110 (around £ 82 / $ 170 in).
Then you will have to remove the original chip and weld the news. The worst aspect of this may be that it requires a block of firmware, which means that you can never update your steam game, because it will erase the parameters and return RAM in 16 GB.
To watch
I think that reading this alone should be sufficient to dissuade most of you to even try the process. It would be much easier to go and buy a new laptop entirely, like the Asus Rog Ally X, than to destroy your pocket computer for good.
Fortunately, if you are interested, the service can be done via SlickBuys mods and repairs, but it should be noted that it is not yet available, and it will probably cost.
Analysis: Please don’t do that … just buy a new laptop
I am sure that I will not be the first to warn you against doing this, because it is very easy for something to be wrong during this process, unless you are well paid with regard to the welding and the programming of the bios. Even if you are (or did it via a service), it is still too early to see how it will work long -term in terms of thermal and battery life.
You could miss new important steamos updates in the future. That doesn’t mean you can Never Improve your steam game again, but be ready to repeat the BIOS programming process again.
I was very critical of recent portable prices, but I would always choose to buy on this subject. After all, I do not think that the upgrade is large enough to justify taking the risk, because it only applies to specific situations or games that need more RAM for better image frequency or building stability.
There is no sign of a Steam bridge successor that comes out so early, despite recent rumors, but I would advise either to stay with your OLED model or to jump to the new Lenovo Legion Go S.
