Meta Connect 2025 is fast approaching – it’s a little more than a month on September 17 – but Meta CTO is already referring to what we will see during the event, and perhaps just as important, it suggests what we will not see this time by not mentioning it.
Andrew Bosworth welcomes AMAs frequent on Instagram (via Uploadvr) where he provides answers that are sometimes surprisingly open to questions asked by the public, with his latest comments about an AMA on what to expect from Connect 2025.
After wondering what he can allude, Bosworth reveals that the event will include “great announcements”, “Ai, in particular the Plus Mobiles”, “Ai more metavers” and “Metaverse Software”.
I will dive into these – in particular the portable side – in a moment, but I want to highlight a category that Bosworth did not name: Metaverse Hardware, AKA VR / MR Headsets.
Now, it should be noted that the lack of promise of advertisement is not the same as to say explicitly that there will be no new VR equipment. But the absence of a new Meta Quest 4, Meta Quest Pro 2 or another type of helmet was expected – and this AMA of Bosworth adds more fuel to the fire of speculation.
Rumors tease a new helmet – or glasses – coming from Meta in the future, but it is not due to land before at least next year, on the basis of leaks. The wait also gives meta flexibility to better push the Moohan project from Samsung and Google in store while Android XR walks in the ring.
Quest 3 and quest 3 are large machines; Meta does not need to precipitate their successor.
We can at least excite ourselves for new Metaversse software, although it is not clear which form it will take. New VR games or video streaming services would be ideal (an update of Deadpool VR seems likely), but there is not too much information to browse depending on the comments of Bosworth or wider leaks.
Gogo glasses
Okay, so don’t hold your breath for a quest 4. But what material should we keep our eyes outside?
Portable devices are likely to present themselves in three forms depending on rumors and the recent launch of the Meta Oakley’s intelligent specifications.
Most probably is a model named Celeste, according to rumors. These intelligent glasses have long been subjected to AI glasses – most likely meta -rays – with a display for the first time. They will not be complete like the Prototype Orion, rather offering something half-past between them and what we have currently.
Celeste would be equipped only with a single screen, and it will not boast a large field of vision or offer position monitoring. This means that the notifications and information that glasses show that you always appear at a specific distance, rather than being able to define them practically in space so that you can get closer or further, as you can with a real object.
These glasses can also be packed with the first Meta bracelet, or another laptop similar to an intelligent watch. Rather than following health measures, the Meta Watch is supposed to be mainly focused on giving you control of virtual objects and notifications, but I would not be shocked if there was an improved version that you could buy which includes typical health and physical form monitoring. In other words, if the basic model does not have these features.
My final prediction of portable devices is more a boot of clearance, but it makes sense to me if we consider the age of the most recent Ray-Bans of Meta and that the equipment improves the new Oakleys.
That is to say that I think Meta will also launch a refresh of its shelves without screens with the improved camera and battery that the Oakleys offer-perhaps with new conceptions to start.
Unlike Celeste, there are no rumors on this subject, and there would be generally if we are close to the launch, but that seems to be obvious to give ultra -popular smart glasses Meta a little refreshment, so they are in the best possible place to repel the Android XR specifications which should start to fall in 2026.
