Asif gives another bureaucracy

Lahore:

A few days after abandoning a bomb and whistled the country’s bureaucracy, the Minister of Defense, Khawaja Asif, doubled his criticisms on Monday, targeting the “sumptuous indulgences” of civil servants and calling for urgent legislative reforms to reintegrate them.

Speaking on a private news channel, the minister cited narcotic figures for a report, saying that a colossal of 3.5 billions of rupees was spent each year for the bureaucrats. “According to a pice [Pakistan Institute of Development Economics] Report, 860 million rupees are spent throughout the service period of a single bureaucrat, “he added.

While not accusing the entire public service, Asif alleged that “25 to 30%” of the bureaucracy was corrupt. “I will personally ask my own government to legislate on bureaucracy,” he promised.

He urged that bureaucrats are legally required to declare their assets each year, arguing that “no other sector has as much corruption as bureaucracy”.

Stressing the “blatant disparity” in the rules of dual nationality, noted: “No politician, judge or army officer in Pakistan can hold dual nationality … Only bureaucrats cannot. This privilege must end.

He also demanded the end of “the endless attribution of the plots” to bureaucrats, claiming that such advantages should not be treated as a right.

The Minister also said that he did not expect his previous declaration concerning certain bureaucrats to buy property in Portugal to provoke such a tumult. He revealed that he is now carrying out an investigation and intended to exhibit the people involved.
