- Android TV 14 finally hits certain Sony televisions, according to reports
- Models receiving update seem to use Realtek chipsets
- Android TV 14 launched in mid-2024
Some Sony televisions began to receive Android TV 14 in a recent software update, almost a year after its launch in mid-2024.
Initially launched on Google’s own streamer devices and the Streamers ONN, it seems that we see a major deployment of Android TV 14 on a multitude of Sony televisions.
According to Android Authority, the models included are not what you expect, because a large majority are mid -range mid -range LED televisions. The deployment was spotted for the first time by the user of Reddit Proshis_Saha_swooopna, whose own TV updated Android TV 11 to 14.
Some of the models included are the Sony X77L, Sony Bravia 2, Sony X75L, X74L, X75K, X74K, X70L, X64L and more, some of which go back to 2022.
Interestingly, the all sets listed in the update are those with Realtek chipsets and not Médiatk, the latter is included on higher -end Sony TVs such as Sony A95L and Sony X90L, two of the best televisions in recent years.
It is not yet clear what updates that these Sony televisions will receive Android TV 14, but some of its functionalities include a low energy and optimized energy mode, an image functionality in the situation and an upgrade of performance on low RAM devices.
One thing that deserves to be noted is that, although major updates to the operating system cannot happen for certain televisions, there are still regular bucks and safety updates for Google TV devices. My own Philips OLED and SONY led television both received updates this year.

When will the full deployment take place?
It’s been time to come, but it is finally good to see progress with Android TV 14. In almost a year since its launch, it has only reached Google and ONN Specific streamers while televisions with the Google TV platform are always stuck in Android 10, 11 and 12.
Earlier this year, Android announced Android TV 16, but there are no clear plans for a deployment or even a release date, although there is a conviction that it is perhaps not before 2026, because Android apparently went to a bi-annual update cycle. It seems that it will be a while, however, because the deployment of 14 has only just begun.
Although it is great that the deployment began for Sony, it seems strange that it is only on specific models with the Realtek chipset. This is excellent news for these directed television owners, but not such good news for those who have more Sony Premium TV.
We will just have to hope that Android TV 14 will soon be able to move on a larger range of devices. We will be sure to keep an eye on more information.
