Hyderabad:
PPP president Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari rejected Tuesday as “baseless” speculation on any decision to legislate a 27th constitutional amendment.
Even if the 26th amendment remains embedded in the controversy, the Islamabad power corridors were effervescence with rumors that a possible 27th amendment could further change the structure and functioning of the higher judiciary.
The 26th amendment made radical modifications to the judicial framework.
Addressing journalists when launching the renovation works for the Niaz stadium in Hyderabad, Bilawal struck the “baseless rumors”. “So far, no federal minister, Prime Minister or Party member has approached me.”
He stressed that the 26th amendment was adopted after reaching a consensus and with compromise from political parties. “The PPP wanted constitutional courts, but we have compromised,” said Bilawal.
Meanwhile, on X (formerly Twitter), the PPP media wing quoted Bilawal saying: “The 26th constitutional amendment is an eternal success. Judicial reforms and constitutional courts were a request from the Charter of Democracy, but we have prioritized a constitutional bench on a constitutional court for damage”.
Commenting on India’s position on the Industry Water Treaty, Bilawal said Pakistan should receive its share of three rivers under the agreement, warning that if the treaty was not honored, Pakistan would seek water from the six rivers under international law.
He remembered Hyderabad a year ago to inaugurate a water filtration plant and expressed its satisfaction with the rate of projects in progress by the provincial government. “In the past, some politicians have sown hate seeds here, but now Hyderabad will continue to move forward.”
Emphasizing the need to pass traditional methods of flood irrigation to advanced water technology, he added.
