Five nations owe 304 million Pakistani dollars, reveals the audit

Islamabad:

An audit has revealed that five countries owed Pakistan tens of millions of dollars, the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) recommending that the case be taken at the appropriate diplomatic level for the takeover, it appeared on Tuesday.

Officials from the Ministry of Economic Affairs said they were pursuing recovery through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, using diplomatic channels and joint ministerial committees. Reminder letters and request notices were also sent to the five failing countries.

According to the audit report, the list of failed failing includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Iraq, Sudan and Guinea, from which Pakistan has so far not recovered $ 304.5 million.

The report indicates that Pakistan granted export credit to these countries during the 1980s and 1990s. In the Pakistani currency, the unpaid amount exceeds 86 billion rupees.

Iraq is at the top of the list of debtors, with 231.3 million dollars in progress, followed by Sudan, which owes $ 46.6 million. Bangladesh’s pending debt amounts to $ 21.4 million, concerning sugar and cement plant projects. Guinea-Bissau owes $ 3.653 million.

The report notes that the AGP also reported the unpaid amounts during the 2006-07 audit, when recalling letters and request notices were sent.
