KP shaken by a chain of terrorist attacks against the police

Peshawar:

Terrorists led to 13 attacks of pistol and grenades over the night against the police in several districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in which at least six police officers kissed the martyrdom, officials announced Thursday.

Many of these attacks have been postponed when the police retaliated, inflicting injuries to attackers, while the Department of Counter-Terrorism (CTD), in an intelligence operation (IBO), killed three terrorists in Peshawar.

Night attacks were against police stations, control points and patrols in seven districts in the province, policeman Mohammad Ali Babakhel told Reuters. The attacks occurred while the nation celebrated its 78th day of independence.

The unprecedented wave of violence has struck several districts, notably Peshawar, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Shangla and Bannu, in what officials have described as an attempt to challenge the brief of the state of the day of independence.

Activists used grenade launchers powered by rocket (RPG) in some of the attacks, said Babakhel, adding that six officers were martyred and nine injured. Provincial police chief Zulfiqar Hameed later said that deaths had taken place in two incidents.

“Of 13, we have inflicted losses, pushed them back and forced them to flee in nine, 10 incidents,” journalists Hameed, Inspector General (IG) of KP police.

The most serious attack occurred in the region of Upper Dir Panah Kot, where three police officers kissed martyrdom after their mobile van was caught. Six others were injured in the incident.

The neighboring district of Dir has experienced two distinct attacks against police control points in Maidan, Lajbok and Shadas. Gendarme Sanaullah was martyred in Lajbok, while the Constable Sultan Zareen was injured in Shadas, police announced.

In the regions of Bannu Maryan and Mazanga, the terrorists pulled an RPG-7 at the police control points, but the police returned the fire, forcing the attackers to flee without inflicting victims, the police said.

Similarly, in the distant area of Shangla, the attackers targeted a police station around 1:30, but the night vision equipment and the quick alert of the reinforcements allowed the police to push the assault. Sources said that an activist had been injured.

In the provincial capital, the terrorists struck two police checks in Matni and Nasir Bagh, as well as at the Hassan Khel police station. The gendarme Jahangir Khan was martyred and another officer injured in the attack by Hassan Khel.

The CTD later said that three Fitna al-Khawarij-A term used for Tehreek-E-Taliban (TTP) terrorists.

“The suspects were under continuous technical surveillance, the investigators traced their movements and confirming their identity by electronic fingerprints,” he said in a statement.

“Acting on the intelligence of an imminent terrorist strike in the border area of Khyber-Peshawar, a CTD Swat team intercepted the group. The activists opened fire blind, which aroused a precise response that left the three dead on the spot,” he added.

He identified one of the died terrorists like Abdullah alias Jawad, an Afghan national, already wanted the police in a case. The identity of the other two has not yet been confirmed, while a search for their ongoing accomplices was underway.

The CTD said that the preliminary investigation links the gang to at least 18 terrorist incidents in the Peshawar district in the past in which nearly two dozen police officers and citizens have been martyred.

The weapons and explosives recovered from the site included an M4 rifle, a M16 rifle, an SMG, an improvised explosive device of 2.5 kg (IED), a hand grenade, four smartphones, 125 roller -ammunition and six magazines, added the declaration.

The officials said that the group was part of a TTP cell, operating under managers abroad, with active plans to increase attacks on security forces, infrastructure and pro-state persons.

The CTD praised the operation as a demonstration of “unshakable engagement, operational precision and inter -information coordination” in the dismantling of terrorist networks and the safeguard of peace in the region.

Elements of Fitna al-Khawarij also shot a police party near Nasir Bagh, but the action in a timely manner prevented the victims, “said KP police.”

The IG welcomed the professionalism and the courage of the police forces, noting that 80% of the attacks had been thwarted despite the extent of the attack. “The enemy sought to overshadow the celebrations of August 14, but our brave soldiers were firm,” he said.

During a visit to Upper Dir, Hameed attended funeral prayers for martyred staff. He also attended the funeral prayers for the gendarme Jahangir Khan with the police lines of Malik Saad Shaheed in Peshawar.

The chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur condemned attacks as “cowardly acts” aimed at demoralizing the police, he assured support to the families of the martyrs and promised that their sacrifices “will remain in the history in history”.
