Lodhran: A man was killed and several others suffered serious injuries when at least four cars on a passenger train derailed near Lodhran station on Sunday, according to the deputy commissioner of the city, Iram Shahzadi.
Lodhran’s deputy commissioner, Dr. Lubna Nazir, said the accident left at least 19 injured passengers, who had been withdrawn from damaged and emergency -transported coaches to Bahawal Victoria hospital.
“In the hospital, a seriously injured passenger succumbed to his injuries,” she said, adding that two other passengers were still fighting for their lives.
The government official said that the rescue teams have evacuated other passengers trapped inside the cars.
“The exact cause of the accident is still unknown,” said DC Lodhran.
The train was traveling from Peshawar to Karachi at the time of derailment, said the government manager, adding that “train traffic on the tracks from top to bottom is now normally”.
Last month, an explosion on the railway near Shikarpur had three coaches of the Jaffar Express derailed, leaving an injured passenger and disturbing train operations in the region.
The impact of Blast has thrown several coaches on the track, suspended rail operations on the affected road.
In June, five Jaffar Express bogies jumped the rails after an explosion hit the track near Jacobabad. The train was on the road from Peshawar to Quetta.
The explosion damaged the railway line, disturbing train services in the region; However, no victim has been reported, they added.
