Rawalpindi:
A six -year -old girl was swept away in an open sewer drain in Khalid’s colony, Mohra Chhappar on Chakri Road. Rescue 1122 launched a research operation, but it was suspended at sunset due to the darkness and will resume on Monday morning.
In a separate incident on Adiala Road, two cattle breeders have become blocked on a mound after the water level suddenly increased. They were safely saved by rescue staff 1122 using a boat.
Rescue officials said that the disappeared child, identified as Nagina, was trying to recover a shoe that fell into the drain when she lost her balance and was swept away by the current.
The rescue teams quickly reached the site, deploying an emergency vehicle, an ambulance, a water rescue vehicle and a team of seven members who included two divers and swimmers.
The drain would be five to eight feet deep, with water flowing from eight to 10 kilometers per hour. Despite a week’s search, operations were interrupted at nightfall due to poor visibility. The officials confirmed that research would resume the same point on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, on Adiala Road, the rescue teams acted quickly after receiving reports from two men trapped by fast -growing water. The two were evacuated in a few minutes and moved safely.
