- Oracle dismissed more than 300 California and Washington workers
- Corporate layoffs have so far been low compared to other hyperscalers
- AI infrastructure expenses are to eat in the endowment budgets
Workers’ adjustment and recycling notification deposits (WARN) have confirmed that Oracle has dismissed more than 300 workers in Washington and California.
The layoffs are made up of 143 workers in Redwood City, California and 161 others in Seattle, Washington, but other layoffs could also take place which are not covered by warning documents.
A worker familiar with the affair told The register The figures are low, suggesting that remote workers may not be taken into account – a way to obscure the scale of layoffs of which Microsoft has also been accused.
Oracle dismissals more than 300 workers
“I have the impression that it happened here too, the reported figures do not quite correspond to my so -called network,” said the worker.
“My estimate would be thousands of people around the world … It’s just the start,” they added.
Compared to the other giants of this space, the reaction of Oracle to economic uncertainties was quite reserved. About 200 workers left in 2022, with a little more in separate sessions since then.
Compared to tens of thousands of people who lost their jobs at Amazon, Google and Microsoft, Oracle workers were therefore quite safe.
In the front, The registerThe source suggests that thousands of people could lose their jobs worldwide, closed offices and significant discounts in India (around 10% of its local workforce).
Artificial intelligence has been blamed for current technological layoffs, but instead that AI takes human jobs, companies must allocate more capital to the extensions of the AI data center, effectively reducing their endowment budgets.
In June, Oracle confirmed an increase in income for the 2025 financial year by 8%. “The Cloud Infrastructure growth rate is expected to drop from 50% in fiscal year 25 to more than 70% in fiscal year 26,” noted CEO Safra Catz.
Techradar Pro asked Oracle to share an additional context on his recent layoffs. Any update will be published here.
