Quetta:
The security forces thwarted a major terrorist attack which was scheduled for August 14 by the Liberation Army of Balutchistan (Bla) prohibited, involving a university professor as a facilitator.
“It was not only an attack – it was part of a larger plan to break Pakistan and destabilize Balutchistan. Our agencies acted quickly and crushed their conspiracy,” the chief Minister of Balutchistan said on Monday, addressing a press conference in Quetta.
He said that the major black brigade uses several tactics, adding that the group also claimed responsibility for previous terrorist attacks.
The accused, identified as Professor Usman Qazi, has a doctorate in Pakistani studies and was an employee of the government. Qazi, who is currently under interrogation, would have admitted his involvement with the Bla on video and shared details on the way he has teamed up with the proscribed group.
According to Bugti, Qazi met three individuals linked to the black while studying at Quaid-Ezam (Qau) University in Islamabad. He was then contacted by Hebtan alias Kalak and Bugti, who would have recruited him for the Bla and subsequently presented him to Basheer Zaib.
Dr. Habetan and Bugti also said that Qazi had acted as a facilitator in the bombing of Quetta station in November 2024, which killed 32 people and injured more than 50 others. According to Bugti, the professor transported the bomber on a motorcycle up to a location near the station before putting it back to another manager.
Qazi would have been in communication with DIL via the encryption of encryption Telegram. In a statement, Qazi said his first assignment was to provide medical assistance to DIL. He also claimed to have provided shelter to the individual who carried out the suicide attack at Quetta station.
BUGTI said that around 2,000 to 2,500 government employees have been investigated in the fight against terrorism in the province, adding that a dedicated cell was created to specifically deal with terrorism issues.
“Deprived how?
Addressing the media, Bugti rejected the affirmations that Balutchistan is deprived in any way. “For those who insist that Balutchistan is private, I ask-how was this teacher deprived?”
The chief minister rejected feelings such as “propaganda”. He warned the residents of Balutchistan not to join organizations like BLA, urging parents to watch their children. Bugti added that the government took all the necessary measures, in coordination with the security forces, to eliminate terrorism from the province. “We are the state, not terrorists,” he said.
Bugti also said that the government would not be intimidated by extremist elements. Those who commit terrorism in the name of Baloutche identity must also fall under the national action plan, alongside other extremist activists.
Balutchistan has long struggled with terrorism, attacks degenerating both in frequency and intensity.
Last month, a passenger bus was ambushed when a shooter opened fire, killing at least three people. The province’s stations have also been targeted several times in recent months, highlighting the persistent threat of violence.
