IHC grants a deposit to an accused blasphemy

Islamabad:

The High Court of Islamabad (IHC) granted a deposit to a person arrested in a blasphemy case in 2023, taking into account the non-compliance with the National Cyber Crime Investigation (NCCIA) to conclude the investigation despite the passage of two years.

An IHC bench including Judge Babar Sattar heard on Tuesday the release of Asimullah, deposited by his lawyer Asif Ali Tamboli. The lawyer argued that the accused had been in detention since October 30, 2023, but the investigation remained incomplete.

Judge Sattar asked why the investigation had not been concluded despite two years in detention.

NCCIA officials told court that ASIMULLAH had been added to a WhatsApp group from which the reprehensible content had been shared, and on the basis of the SIM card tracing, it was arrested in 2023. During the investigation of the SIM property, NCCIA officials admitted that they could not determine the name of the SIM.
