Seven years after his last opus, Toy Story 5 is almost ours. This time, the toys take on the world of technology, asking whether the two can coexist in the lives of little children, or whether technology automatically wins.
Our new “bad guy” comes in the form of Lilypad (Greta Lee), a kid-friendly tablet convinced she’s doing her best by the gang’s new kid, Bonnie.
We have a release date for this film, with Jessie (Joan Cusack), Buzz (Tim Allen) and Woody (Tom Hanks) hitting cinemas worldwide on June 19. But what about the new movie coming out on one of the best streaming services around, Disney+?
Does Toy Story 5 already have a Disney+ release date?
Look on it
As I said, the theatrical release date of Toy Story 5 is June 16, so it will be a while before it releases on Disney+.
When could this be? I don’t have any inside information, but my best guess is that it will drop in early October.
But why then? Typically, Disney releases its first-party films on its main streamer around three months after their theatrical launch.
Some have arrived on the service earlier or later than expected, but this is usually due to their underperformance at the global box office (which could lead to an earlier streaming release), or if they are still making money from ticket sales (so they are left in theaters longer).
It is very likely for Toy Story 5 to do well in cinemas, so a longer theatrical release window seems likely – so I’m going for four months, and therefore early-mid-October.
How long is Toy Story 5?
Toy Story 5 has an official runtime of 1 hour and 42 minutes. This makes it the second longest film in the entire franchise, just one minute behind Toy Story 3 (1 hour and 43 minutes).
It’s not yet clear whether the new film will feature a post-credits scene, but given that it’s a Disney film, my advice is to keep your eyes peeled.
