At least 13 more Indian-backed terrorists were killed during the ongoing Operation Shaban in Balochistan, taking the total number of militants killed during the operation to 39, security sources said on Friday.
The operation was launched following the attack on Mangi Dam police station and is being carried out jointly by the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps (FC) and Balochistan Police, security sources said.
Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry on Wednesday said Indian-backed terrorists attacked the checkpoint but police personnel bravely fought the terrorists and killed 15 militants during the initial engagement.
At the time, the military spokesman said nine police officers accepted martyrdom during the initial fighting, adding that militants took police officers hostage before security forces reached the area.
The military spokesman said security forces carefully tightened the cordon around the militants because “our children were being held hostage.”
He said security forces remained with militants in the Ziarat mountains from July 6. “When the terrorists realized that the cordon had tightened, these cowards martyred 18 police officers.”
Lt Gen Chaudhry said 27 policemen accepted martyrdom during the Mangi checkpoint attack, while 26 militants were killed during this operation.
Separately, security sources today said an attack on a police post in Khuzdar was also repulsed, adding that the Pakistan Army and FC troops carried out an operation in response, with reports saying eight militants were killed.
They added that since July 5, a total of 75 militants had been killed during Operation Shaban and other intelligence operations.
