The PGA Tour returns to Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, for the sixth of this season’s eight marquee events. The Truist Championship features a field of 72 players and serves as key preparation before next week’s PGA Championship.

The main story this week is the return of Rory McIlroy after a three-week hiatus following his historic back-to-back Masters victories, becoming the fourth golfer to accomplish the feat at Augusta National.

Even though world number one Scottie Scheffler won’t be on the course this week, Rory McIlroy will still be joined by seven of the world’s top 10 golfers.

So who will lift the trophy at the end of the week?

Let’s take a look at the odds on DraftKings Sportsbook as of May 5.

Here’s what you need to know about the odds table:

Favorites

With Scheffler out of the field, McIlroy opens as a +580 favorite in his first start since winning his second green jacket. Right behind him is Cameron Young at +920. Young comes into this event having won the Cadillac championship last week and in the best shape of his career. Over his last seven starts, he has recorded two wins (including the Players Championship) as well as five top 10 finishes. That run includes a T-3 at the Masters, where he played in the final group alongside McIlroy.

Outright Best Bets

Xander Schauffele: +1150 (bet $10 to win $125 total)

Xander Schauffele is looking for his first victory of the year.

Although Schauffele has yet to win this season, he has remained one of the best and most consistent players on the Tour. He has four top-10 finishes this season and has placed in the top 25 in each of his last seven starts. According to Data Golf, Schauffele has won strokes on approach in 13 consecutive events, including more than two strokes at the Masters. His consistent ball-striking suggests it’s a question of when, not if, he wins this season, and that could be the sweet spot given his runner-up finishes at Quail Hollow in 2023 and 2024.

Adam Scott: +3000 (bet $10 to win $310 total)

Adam Scott finished in the top four in the Cadillac Championship last week.

Scott leads the PGA Tour in approach play this season, winning strokes with his irons on every tee. He’s gained over +1.5 approach strokes in three of his last four events and recorded two top-five finishes, including a T-4 at last week’s Cadillac Championship. Although his putting held him back from a huge season, there were some very encouraging signs during his final round on Sunday, when he produced his best performance of the season. If he continues this week, he could be extremely dangerous.

Patrick Cantlay: +3200 (bet $10 to win $330 in total)

Patrick Cantlay has achieved impressive results this season.

Cantlay begins a run of three straight T-12s this week, including at the Masters, where he battled back from a +5 opening round and 65th-place finish to make a charge on the weekend. He continued his momentum at the RBC Heritage, finishing T-8 despite losing by nearly a stroke on the greens. If his putter can tip over, be careful.

Viktor Hovland: +3500 (bet $10 to win $360 in total)

Viktor Hovland arrives on a course that suits his game.

Viktor Hovland is the definition of boom or bust. Even though he had a disappointing season by his standards, this run looks very good for him. He finished T-3 here in his first career start of 2021 and said the layout suited his game, especially with its length and emphasis on solid driving.

He showed flashes at the RBC Heritage a few weeks ago, playing well early before fading over the weekend. He’s still working out some inconsistencies, but his upside is undeniable. Hovland is the type of player who can compete any week, and at longer odds, he brings crisp, clean value.
