The electoral demarcations of Murree district have been completed under the Local Government Act, 2025, according to a new notification issued by the secretary of the Punjab Local Government and Community Development Department.
Under the revised arrangements, the resort town of Murree – often referred to as the ‘Queen of the Hills’ – has been granted the status of a fully autonomous municipal corporation. The newly constituted Murree Municipal Corporation (MMC) will comprise 17 union councils and have a total population of 132,005.
Meanwhile, the Murree Tehsil Council will consist of 15 union councils, with a total population of 120,521.
In the second tehsil of the district, Kotli Sattian, two local government institutions have been established. The first is the Kotli Sattian Municipal Committee, which will cover the urban area and include three union councils, with a population of 26,067.
The Tehsil Kotli Sattian Council, on the other hand, will comprise 12 union councils and will serve a population of 94,354.
Besides, Murree Hills Cantonment will continue to function as a separate LG entity.
