RAWALPINDI:
The Punjab Schools Secretary has released funds totaling Rs 3.271 billion for government schools in the province to meet current expenses including utility bills, repair of furniture and salaries of security guards and sweepers.
According to official sources, the allocated funds will be transferred to the government accounts of the respective district education authorities through the District Accounts Offices (DAOs) within two days. Subsequently, the amounts will be disbursed from the accounts of the District Education Officers (DEOs) to the official bank accounts of each school.
Under this allocation, government schools in Rawalpindi district will receive Rs 12 million; Attock district Rs63.8m; Jhelum district Rs 46.00; and Chakwal district Rs70.5m.
For Lahore district, Rs 104 million has been set aside, while Gujranwala district will get Rs 110.8 million. An allocation of Rs102.2 million has been released for government schools in Multan district, while Rs174.4 million has been reserved for Faisalabad district.
The funds released are intended to ensure the smooth functioning of public schools by meeting daily operational needs and avoiding disruptions to essential services.
The disbursement follows strong protests from public schools against the non-release of the quarterly tranche. School administrations had warned that due to the depletion of funds, payment of utility bills had been suspended and salaries of sweepers and security guards remained unpaid.
