Olivia Rodrigo shared more information about her upcoming album, you look pretty sad for a girl so in lovein a new interview and shared the challenges she felt writing from a place of happiness rather than heartbreak unlike her first two albums.
The 23-year-old pop superstar shared that she felt challenged when she approached her piano and tried to write about her happiness, while in her first romantic relationship.
“When I decided to straighten out this album…it felt like a challenge to write something that was meaningful and writing a song about happiness is a lot harder than writing a song about heartbreak, I think,” Rodrigo told the hosts in a video that went viral.
The Grammy winner went on to share that she then challenged herself “to make a love song and also talk about the negative feelings that come with being in a romantic relationship like lust and envy and jealousy and missing your partner when they’re away, and so that was the challenge for me to marry those two worlds.”
Fans excited about the album’s June 12 release flocked to the comments and shared their eagerness to listen to the record in full, with one writing: “This album is about to break me in half, it’s not even funny.”
Another joked: “This album feels a bit like getting run over by a truck I already know,” and “you know she’s going to cook in this album,” chimed in a third.
THE Vampire the singer has so far released a single from the album, Fall deadwhich is already dominating the streaming charts.
