Restrictions on outdoor drone flying remained in effect across the province for another 30 days, notification says
The Punjab government has extended the implementation of Section 144 to the entire province, maintaining a complete ban on outdoor drone flights, said a notification issued on Sunday.
According to the Interior Ministry, restrictions on drone flying in open spaces have been extended for another 30 days and would remain in force until May 25. The measure was originally imposed for security reasons.
“Considering the overall security situation, it is imperative to ensure the safety of people and the protection of facilities and buildings from any potential threats or undesirable activities,” the notification said.
The order pointed out that the restrictions had been extended in the “wider interest of public safety, security, peace and tranquility”, adding that there were “sufficient grounds” for further enforcement under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, in order to prevent any disturbance of public peace and to safeguard lives and property.
However, the ban does not apply to the limited use of small drones at indoor events. Authorities said small drones could be used inside wedding halls and marquees for coverage purposes.
“The safe operation of these drones in a limited and confined indoor area is the responsibility of the organizer,” the notification said.
The restriction also exempted the use of drones by intelligence and law enforcement agencies. The Punjab government has directed the administration and police to ensure strict implementation of the order during the period of execution.
