KARACHI:

The body of a 12-year-old boy, who went missing after falling into a water pipe two days ago, was found Sunday morning in the Saadi town area, Rescue 1122 reported.

According to a Rescue 1122 spokesperson, the victim, identified as Zahid, fell into the water line in Sachal Ghazi Goth on Friday. A rescue operation had been underway for two days before the body was finally located and transferred to the morgue.

He said Zahid was a student at a local madrasa and was the eldest of three brothers and two sisters. His father is a laborer and the family hails from Loralai, Balochistan.

The water pipeline, commonly known as Saadi Town Canal, is owned by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC). Preliminary information suggests that Zahid may have accidentally fallen into the line while playing nearby.

Residents said similar incidents had occurred at the site in the past, with no apparent safety measures taken by the relevant authorities.

The boy’s body had traveled nearly half a kilometer downstream.

The manhole was located directly across the street from a department store, a two-by-two foot uncovered gutter with no protective cover or barrier for pedestrians.
