The Pussycat Dolls have officially abandoned their highly anticipated North American reunion tour, with industry experts pointing to difficulties with ticket sales as the main reason for the decision.
In a refreshingly candid social media update posted Monday afternoon, the group admitted the decision was made after taking an “honest look” at the North American race.
While several other major artists have recently blamed similar cancellations on family commitments or health concerns, the Dolls have notably avoided making excuses, leading fans and observers to conclude that arena-sized venues simply weren’t filling up as hoped.
The cancellation affects 32 shows in the United States and Canada, including a high-profile booking at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
However, there is a glimmer of hope for American fans, as the band have confirmed that they will still be headlining the Outloud festival during WeHo Pride in Los Angeles on June 6.
The band described the LGBTQ+ community as a “meaningful place” to celebrate, citing the immense support they have received from the community throughout their career.
Aside from this pride appearance, all other North American dates are excluded and tickets purchased through official channels like Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded.
Even though the US tour collapsed, the band’s tour across the UK and Europe is still going strong.
The Dolls shared that the response across the Atlantic has been incredible, with several shows already sold out.
These dates are set to kick off in Copenhagen on September 9 and end at London’s O2 Arena on October 13, with rapper Lil Kim still scheduled to open on the European tour.
Some fans have suggested that the Dolls could have been more successful by booking smaller theaters or reducing ticket prices, especially since only half of the original lineup is attending.
For now, Nicole Scherzinger and her bandmates say they’re doing everything they can to make the remaining European shows a “true celebration” for those who have been with them since the beginning.
